Police Arrest Sexual Assault Suspect


Winnipeg Police Information Notice


Early Tuesday morning, approximately 4:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a male armed with a knife who had confronted two girls in their mid-teens. The suspect initially came into contact with the girls in the area of Stella Avenue and McKenzie Street. He grabbed the girls' cell phones, and a brief physical confrontation took place.


The suspect grabbed one of the girls and pulled her through several yards to an open industrial area where she was seriously sexually assaulted.


Responding officers located the second victim who had reported the incident to the police, unharmed, in the area of Powers Street and Flora Avenue. The first victim was found in the area a short time later. She was taken to hospital and treated for her injuries.


This incident occurred between approximately 4 – 4:30 a.m. The suspect is described as:

  1. Male, Indigenous in appearance

  2. Approximately 20 to 30 years old

  3. Wearing shorts to his knees, a fanny pack around his chest, grey or purple shirt and dark coloured runners.

On August 13, 2020, investigators from the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit arrested a suspect in this incident.


Cody Lance George Klyne,32, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Sexual Assault Cause Bodily Harm

- Sexual Interference

- Forcible Confinement

- Robbery x 2


Klyne was detained in custody.
