Grants Awarded in our Community in May

Winnipeg City Councillor Kevin Klein

One of the high honours bestowed on a City Councillor is the opportunity to support community programs and initiatives through three different grant processes. This month (May 2020), on behalf of the residents of Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood, we awarded five grants within our community.

Located in Charleswood, the Charleswood United Church provides over 1,000 Christmas hampers to families in our community. The hamper program is supported by volunteers and donations from members of our community to support this annual offering. Our Ward has provided $1,000 towards the purchase of Turkey's for the 2019 hampers.

Located in Westwood, the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans of Canada ensure we never forget those who served with their annual Remembrance Day programming. When you visit the ANAFV you'll see on display many memorable posters from programs in the past. We granted the group $550 to preserve the signs for many more years.

A group of parents known in the community as the River West Park School Landscape Project has been working diligently to beautify the green space. Through our Wards Land Dedication Reserve Fund, we provided $25,000 in funding to complete the project year.

If your community group of residents group has a particular project or program that could use our support, please call my office at 204 986 5232, and we can discuss the steps required.
