September 26, 2020, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a Winnipeg Police Service, Traffic Unit, was in the area of Salter Street and Boyd Avenue. Officers observed a vehicle in the area and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Upon observing the traffic unit, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.
Within seconds, the fleeing vehicle collided with a second vehicle at the intersection of Andrews Street and Boyd Avenue, a distance of two blocks. Four people from the struck vehicle (including an infant and a child) and two from the fleeing vehicle were transported to hospital, most in critical or serious condition. An adult female from the struck vehicle has succumbed to her injuries.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified and will assume responsibility for the investigation. No further information is available at this time.
