Police Busy with a Homicide, Human Remains Finding & More


Winnipeg Police had a busy weekend with a homicide, the finding of human remains, assaults, and carjackings.


On August 9, 2020, at 1:18 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue for a report of an assault. A male had been assaulted by a group of individuals who had since fled the area.


Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.


The deceased victim has been identified as Anthony Evaristo Gonzales, a 30-year-old male of Winnipeg.

Human Remains – Investigation: C20-186701


On August 7, 2020, at 9:14 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Henderson Highway for a report of partial human remains that had been discovered on the riverbank.


The identity and age of the remains are unknown at this time. The Forensic Identification Section and Chief Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate.


Assault with a Weapon – Investigation: C20-185585


On August 6, 2020, at 3:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the first 100 block of Keewatin Street for a report of an assault. A male had been stabbed while sitting outside of a hotel, and the suspect had fled.


Upon arrival, officers located a 57-year-old male with serious injuries. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to serious condition.

Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C20-186382


On August 7, 2020, at 2:07 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 800 block of Main Street for a report of an assault. A male had been observed assaulting another male, who was down on the ground. 


Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old male with serious stab wound injuries. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.


At approximately 5: 51 p.m., a suspect was placed under arrest in the area of Dufferin Avenue and King Street. A knife and a small amount of methamphetamine were seized from the suspect.


Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the victim had been aggressively and erratically confronting people in the area when he was stabbed.


Abdiazia Ahmed Saeed, a 39-year-old male of Winnipeg,has been charged with:


- Aggravated Assault

- Possession of a Weapon

- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine 


He was detained in custody.


Carjacking – Investigation: C20-188132


On August 9, 2020, at 2:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a carjacking in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue. Two males had approached a male victim and stole his vehicle at gunpoint. No shots were fired, and the victim was unharmed.

Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Investigation: C20-188311


On August 9, 2020, at 6:06 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of Waterfront Drive for a report of a male that had been stabbed.


Upon arrival, officers located an injured 37-year-old male. He was subsequently transported to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

Carjacking – Arrest: C20-188485


On August 9, 2020, at 10:07 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Balmoral Street and Spence Street for a report of a carjacking. A medical marijuana courier was making a delivery when he was assaulted by a female suspect, who stole his keys and the vehicle. 


The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed and in an erratic manner. With the assistance of AIR1, the vehicle was located, and the suspect was arrested.


Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.


Caitlyn Marie Skead, a 27-year-old female of Winnipeg,has been charged with;


- Robbery

- Flight While Pursued by Officer

- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance

- Fail to Comply with Release Order (x2)

- Fail to Comply with Undertaking

- Drive without a license or with invalid license


She was detained in custody.


Assault with a Weapon – Arrest: C20-188628


On August 10, 2020, at 2:52 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the Health Sciences Centre for a report of a 23-year-old female that had walked in with numerous stab wounds.


The victim remains in hospital in stable condition at this time.
