WINNIPEG, MB. - The current leadership at City Hall has an aggressive agenda for 2021. They intend to cement Master Plans for transit, Governance, traffic, infill, Our Winnipeg, Complete Communities, and the parking strategy.
But are the results predetermined by the leadership? One resident on Twitter who appears to have participated believes so.
This is a common response from many residents with respect to public engagement. The 2021 budget refers to resident satisfactory results from an online survey. The fact is only people in one small are of the city actually participated. You don't have to be a statistician to know the numbers are not a true reflection of our population and thus void.
This leadership plans to continue to control the outcome of public engagement and use the results to manipulate the media and residents.
How can they do this? Using our antiquated "Big Mayor Model" of governance that NO other city in Canada employs, the leadership controls the outcome on all reports, in fact all reports can be edited by the Mayor and his staff, all reports.
A press release from the Mayors office says, "Your feedback will help ensure the final recommended strategy reflects community values."
I urge you to find out for yourself. Share their thoughts on parking concepts the City is considering by taking the survey, or attending one of two virtual events in February:
