Friday, March 10, 2023 - I was proud to stand in the Manitoba Legislature and recognize the outstanding contributions of Kirkfield Park resident Doug Mackie this week. Doug has been instrumental in supporting men's mental health in our community by establishing Menshed’s in Manitoba.
Menshed is a community-based organization that provides a safe and supportive space for men to connect, share their experiences, and engage in meaningful activities. Since 2007, chapters have been started worldwide with a shared mission to promote men's mental health and well-being through community engagement and peer support.
Doug is the founder and organizer of the Woodhaven Menshed in Kirkfield Park in 2011, the first in Canada. His tireless efforts to promote Menshed’s throughout our province have helped establish five groups in Winnipeg and 51 across Manitoba.
Mental health is a critical issue affecting men of all ages and backgrounds, and Menshed is vital in supporting the well-being of men. We can all make a difference in the lives of those struggling, and Doug has made a huge difference in so many lives.
All Members of the House joined me in a standing ovation to acknowledge Doug Mackie, for his years of service in our province and for his leadership, passion, and commitment that has helped to create a safe community support group for men.
