What happened Canada?

Here is more evidence that the dangerous rhetoric of cancel culture and political bias is alive and well in Canada. A recent tweet by Karen Pinder, a professor at The University of British Columbia’s medical school, appeared to celebrate an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Canada has always prided itself on being a beacon of civility and respect in an increasingly divisive world. Yet, recent events have shown that our nation is drifting away from these core values.

A disturbing example of this shift was a recent tweet by Karen Pinder, a professor at UBC’s medical school, that appeared to celebrate an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump. Pinder’s tweet, “Damn, so close. Too bad. What a glorious day this could have been!” was met with swift backlash, highlighting a growing intolerance and aggression in public discourse.

The tweet was quickly deleted, but not before another user, @IR_AMauntie, replied with, “I reeeeeally wish the person had better aim.” Such rhetoric, regardless of one’s political leanings, is alarming and indicative of a deeper problem in our society. Some people on social media were blaming Trump for being shot, claiming he arranged it to incite violence because he is so divisive, which only adds fuel to an already blazing fire of division.
