T.E.A.M Winnipeg

Winnipeg City Councillor Kevin Klein serving Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood

T.E.A.M. Together. Everyone. Archives. More. That quote, I don't know who said it, is a favourite of mine.

Serving as your representative at City Hall, I enjoy speaking with various groups in our distinct communities. Residents who want to improve the area, a playground, park, pathway, or beautify a neighbourhood. It is an inspiring and rewarding part of my job.

The River West Park School and Parent Council are one of those particular groups. They saw a need for the kids in our community and wanted to make positive changes, so they went to work.

They developed a plan to improve a flat, bleak piece of land for the kids. They did fundraising among the parents of students and so much more.

From the Parent Council, Jen contacted our office asking about financial assistance, and to be honest, it was hard to say no to her. The passion in her voice for the kids, attention to detail provided, benefits outlines, and commitment were impressive.

On behalf of the residents I work for in Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood, we approved a Land Dedication grant of $25,000 to meet the financial objective for River Park West planned improvements.

I recently had the privilege of meeting Jen, Robyn, and Darren, of the Parent Council, along with some students at the school, to see their fantastic work firsthand.

To witness the kids having so much fun rolling down a hill, just a little hill that they never had before this group acted was, well, it was something to see.

The parents pointed out that the Parks Department of the City of Winnipeg cleaned up a small treed area by the school and city-owned tennis courts. The Principal said the kids were so excited. They've been playing in the trees every day since. Such a small thing that made such a huge impact. My thanks and gratitude to our Parks team!

I cannot thank the many people who worked on the River West Park School project, who donated and volunteered enough. All the accolades belong to those individuals and the residents of Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood, who granted the funds.

Every Councillor has access to Ward specific grants. I view it as your money. Let's get it working for you. If your community group of residents group has a particular project or program that could use our support, please call my office at 204 986 5232 or email kevin@kevinklein.ca. We can talk about what's available.

We live in a great community and city. We will achieve more if we work together.

Remember, T.E.A.M. - Together. Everyone. Achieves. More.
