Winnipeg City Councillor Kevin Klein serving Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood
During the campaign night construction was a hot topic. Have you noticed how the leadership at City Hall is not talking about night construction anymore?
In fairness, the corner office went to the career politician playbook. They directed one EPC member to move a motion requiring the public service to meet with stakeholders and discuss night construction potential in Winnipeg.
Remember?
A big press conference, accolades during council from members of the inner-circle how wonderful it is the leadership is acting on the issue so important to residents?
And yet today, we're still not doing road work, when feasible, in the evening. The play worked, nobody remembers.
It's not just this leadership. Other career politicians share that same playbook. Make a big announcement regarding a study or stakeholder meetings, get lots of photos, and then do nothing. Life and the media move on to the next issue with the City. That's what they're counting on.
Is this what you want from your employee? Yes, your employee. Elected officials are hired by you and are accountable to you. But the hope is, you, or at least the media, will forget and only remember the photo ops.
