(Winnipeg Police Release)
On April 18, 2020, at approximately 4:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded a gun call in the 200 block of Adsum Drive. A resident had been putting out his garbage when he was confronted by two armed males who demanded money in an apparent robbery. The resident was assaulted by the males but was able to flee and call 911. Soon after, a second call was received that indicated windows were being broken at an apartment building in the 200 block of Adsum Drive. Police units began searching the area, and at approximately 4:19 a.m., two male suspects were located near Pipeline Road and Adsum Drive. During this encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers administered emergency first aid to one suspect, who was transported to a hospital and later pronounced deceased. He has been identified as a 22-year-old male. A second suspect, a 16-year-old male, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries and is currently in police custody. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
