City of Winnipeg Release
The Winnipeg Public Library has released details of the first phase of restored services in response to the Province of Manitoba’s Restoring Safe Services plan by reopening three branches for holds pick-up service only.
On Monday, June 8, Millennium Library (251 Donald St.), Henderson Library (1050 Henderson Hwy.), and Pembina Trail Library (2724 Pembina Hwy.) will reopen for holds pick-up service only. Public hours of operation will be:
• Millennium Library: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
• Henderson & Pembina Trail libraries: Monday to Wednesday, and Friday: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Thursday: 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Service at these libraries, selected in part due to the fact they are three of the busiest, most accessible branches, will initially be holds pick-up service only for a trial period to ensure a safe, phased reopening. Customers will not be able to return materials or enter branches to browse collections. Holds may be placed using the library’s online catalogue or mobile app. Library staff are available to assist you with this process through Winnipeg Public Library’s Ask Us service.
Winnipeg Public Library will continue to deliver online programs and services, which includes maintaining an extensive online eLibrary of digital media, expanding eBook 24/7 access, and maintaining the Ask Us service.
Customers will be asked to use the self-assessment symptom checklist before entering the buildings. Anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to enter the branches.
Library staff have received safety training and will be following handwashing protocols and disinfecting surfaces as needed. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance of each library. Plexiglass shields are being installed at each checkout station.
Holds pick-up will be limited to one person per family. Visitors will be able to pick up family member’s holds if they bring their library cards.
Phase Two of reopening libraries, anticipated to occur in July, will include expanded services such as checkout and returns at additional library branches and will be implemented after Phase One is assessed.
