WINNIPEG, MB - On January 29, 2021, at approximately 12:49 a.m., members of the K9 Unit were in the area of McPhillips Street and Winnipeg Avenue when they observed a suspicious vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
A pursuit ensued, and a tire deflation device (“Stop Stick”) was successfully deployed in the area of Arlington Street and Selkirk Avenue.
The vehicle continued to drive erratically, at which time it became struck a snowbank in the area of Arlington Street and Church Avenue, and the occupants fled on foot.
The K9 Unit, with the assistance of General Patrol and Tactical Support Team officers, tracked from the vehicle and took three suspects into custody. One male was found hiding in a yard in the 700 block of Cathedral Avenue, another male was found in the 500 block of Garlies Street, and the last male was found in a back lane near Arlington Street and Mountain Avenue.
A search of the suspects and the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 6 ounces of methamphetamine and 21 rounds of ammunition (rifle cartridges and shotgun shells). An investigation is still underway to determine if the vehicle was stolen.
The three suspects, males between the ages of 26 and 32, remain in police custody at this time and face various charges.
