This week I have had the pleasure of meeting many residents and small business owners in our community. I wanted to hear them tell me what their budget priorities are They told me what the top five issues facing our city and impacting their business. I am looking forward to listening more and ask you to contact me if your group, company or you personally would like to share your thoughts on the budget and top issues facing our city.
It was a whirlwind day on Friday and it was a lot of fun. I began the morning visiting our wards three 7-11's because it was National Convenience Store Day. The staff were very gracious. I learned about top selling products and more importantly all the work they do in our community.
Then a few media interviews on my motion that was unanimously passed to call for an Independent Inquiry into ambulance wait times in our city. I feel we have failed to manage the crisis properly and now it is costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands in overtime and putting people and staff at risk. Read the motion here.
I was excited to stand shoulder to shoulder with members of the Winnipeg Police Service under the Pride Flag at City Hall to celebrate Pride Week. These women and men are proudly wearing specially designed patches to promote diversity in our city. My gratitude to all the women and men, and their families for their service.
Finally, I ended the day participating in a Pow Wow for Indigenous Appreciation Day at the Red River Ex Fall Fair. As a Metis I appreciate any opportunity to learn more about our Indigenous traditions. I learn something new each time.
