Winnipeg, MB – Due to a steady increase in Transit ridership over the past few weeks, the City of Winnipeg will immediately begin recalling the approximately 120 Winnipeg Transit Operators and 41 Operators-in-Training who were temporarily laid off to prepare for the resumption of summer Transit service.
Effective Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, Winnipeg Transit will be returning to a regular summer schedule, with full weekday service set to resume on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 following Terry Fox Day on Monday, Aug. 3.
As recommended by Manitoba Health, the City is welcoming all passengers to once again use Winnipeg Transit, and is also recommending the use of non-medical face masks while riding the bus or using Transit Plus.
It is important to remember that Transit Operators and Transit Inspectors will not be enforcing the use of non-medical face masks, and we ask that passengers do not judge others who may not be wearing a face mask, as there are a number of reasons some people may not be able to wear a face mask. Passengers are also encouraged to maintain a reasonable separation from other persons when possible, use the rear door when exiting if they are able, and avoid using Winnipeg Transit if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Schedule information will be available on the Winnipeg Transit website beginning Wednesday, July 22, 2020.
